Vera A. Hunter was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and educator. She was known and loved by many. She loved encouraging those around her and inspiring those that she educated. However, most of all, she loved her family.

God saw that Vera was tired and fought a good fight. On the early morning of January 30, 2026 God sent His heavenly angels to rescue her and carried her to her heavenly home for rest. She joined her husband, Curtis, again in eternity.

Vera Alden Hunter was born on April 6, 1937, in Marshall County, MS in the Chulahoma Community. She was the fourth child of Earnest and Clara Jones.

She attended Marshall County Schools during her grade school years. She was a proud graduate of Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, MS with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She moved to Baldwyn after graduating where she remained until her death. Vera taught public schools for 33 years until her retirement. She was an educator for the Lee-Prentiss School and for the Baldwyn School District.

In 1973, she united in holy matrimony to Curtis Hunter, whom she stayed devoted to for 50 golden years. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and later joined Mt. Nebo CME Church, where she remained faithful until her health failed more recently. She loved her church and supported her church through her time and finances. During her time at Mt. Nebo, she was a member of the Senior Choir, the Missionary Society, the Pastor's Aid Board, a faithful Sunday School member, the Forever Young Senior Ministry, and a member of the April Birthday group. As a member of the Mt. Nebo Missionary Society, she held the positions of Missionary President and Vice President. She also served as a Missionary officer on the district and regional levels, as well as served as Missionary of the Year for the Northeast MS Region of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

After retiring, Vera began to explore other endeavors. She worked part-time as a salesclerk at Catherine's Dress Shop. Later, she joined the NMMC Wellness Center and participated in water aerobics. After the passing of her husband, she joined the Lee County Senior Citizen Center in the Pratts Community. At the center, she enjoyed playing the card game of Spades. During her free time, she enjoyed watching her favorite game shows of Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune.

Vera loved and was loved by her family and friends. She was the proud mother of Letitia Sanders (Raymone), and the proud grandmother to Marlon and Milam Sanders. She also leaves her cherished precious memories to her siblings: Sadie Ross, James Jones (Jerlene), Susie Bell (Walter), MH Jones, & Carolyn Harris; In-laws: Shirely Jones, William Hunter (Francis), Gloria Jean Harrison (Dan) and Linwood Cutchins; step-son Demerlyn Warren (Sharon) and step-granddaughter Ashlee Warren.

Goddaughters:  Hilda Marie Parks, Carla Cook, & Kinkem Pina-Betts;

Special caretakers: Ludella Bender, LaDonna Coggins, Janice Tyes, & Selina Young and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis; sisters, Doris Howell & Musette Dugger; and brother, Ernest Jones, Jr.
