Sam Tyes was born August 11, 1965 in Lee County, MS to the late Van Tyes and Sylvia Mister Tyes. He was reared by Rev. Eddie Lee Black and Druscilla Black. He departed this life Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS.

He is survived by three sisters, Hattie Pearl Tyes, Brenda Lee Tyes and Rose Mary Beene; three brothers, John  Henry Tyes, Willie Frierson, and Clemon Ray Frierson.  A host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Van and Sylvia Tyes; brothers Jerry "Jack" Tyes, Henry J. Tyes, Milton Tyes and Ray Charles Frierson; sisters Hettie Mae Tyes, Barbara Frierson and Della Mae Tyes Foster and brother Eddie Black, Jr.
