Ruth "Foxy" Faye Betts, born on March 10, 1952, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to James and Beatrice (Metcalf) Betts, passed away peacefully at Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan, on August 14, 2025, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ruth widely known as Faye, was raised in Mississippi. She played a nurturing role in her family, acting as a second mother to her brothers. Faye valued her relationship with her cousin and dear friend, Louise Metcalf, and graduated from Carver High School in 1970.  She welcome her eldest son, Marcus, in 1972. Two years later, she moved with Marcus to Mt. Clemens, where she established a life centered on family, culinary traditions, and faith.

Shortly after relocating to Michigan, Faye met Charlene "Granny" Riley, who became a supportive mentor and treated Faye as she would her own daughter.  Faye began her employment at the Church of Christ Nursing Home in Clinton Township and welcomed her second son, Cortez, in 1976.

Faye's love of cooking became her calling. Known for her legendary banana pudding, caramel cakes, and peach cobbler, she and Granny ran a successful catering business throughout the 1980's. She also served as kitchen manager at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church from the mid-1980s through 1993, where her food brought comfort and joy to countless people.

In her younger years, Faye enjoyed playing softball and dancing. Friday nights were for going out, dress to impress, and she was known to host the best parties in town.  Family was everything to her--she made frequent trips back to Mississippi with her sons and brothers to stay close to her roots and loved ones.  She never missed a class reunion and stayed proud of her Carver High legacy.

In her later years, Faye took pleasure in shopping, playing card games with her close friends Faye, Pauline, and Vivastine (collectively referred to as "The Golden Girls") and above all, spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and extended relatives. She maintained a particularly strong bond with her niece, conversations with Faye frequently included references to Pearl. Her kindness, loyalty, and talent for making others feel valued will be remembered.

She is survived by her loving children:  Marcus Betts and Cortez(Charrika) Betts; grandsons: Tyreik, Jaylin, Marcelle, Donovan, and Jeremiah; great-granddaughters: Aisha Wiley, Alisha Wiley and Shambria Riley; brothers: Herbert Betts, Willie Betts, and Curtis Betts; sister: Roberta (Willie) McKinney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Beatrice Betts, her beloved brothers: Andrew Wright, Henry Betts, John Betts, Lee Betts, and Willie A. Betts: sisters: Agnes Betts, Cora Long, Emma Pannel, Laura Beane, Louanna Carruthers, and  Velma Betts.

Ruth "Foxy" Faye Betts leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and legendary meals.  Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
