Robert Lee Brookins Jr. transitioned this life on September 24, 2021. He was
born in Memphis, TN to the late Robert Lee Brookins, Sr. and Mary Odessa Brown
on November 11, 1941.
Robert was a member of Impact Baptist Church & Ministries of Memphis, TN.
Robert loved his family and was always the life of the party. He was known to keep
everyone laughing. He was especially fond of his grands and great-grands and
getting their "belly meat" which they looked forward to whenever they saw him.
He was a hard worker and did carpentry work until his health started to decline. He
prided himself on talking to his late mother, Odessa Echols, daily regardless of
where he was. This was something she bragged about until her death. Anytime he
came to visit or even if you visited him, he had something to give you just as a token
of love.
He leaves to cherish: two sisters, Donna Brookins (Memphis, TN) and Debra
(Robert) Johnson, (Atlanta, GA) and two brothers, Keith (Janet) Brookins (Chicago,
Illinois) and Ervin "Bobo" Echols (Memphis, TN).
Robert was survived by two former wives and 13 children: Wife Nellie Brookins &
Wife Liza Brookins: Linda (James) Tallie (Saltillo, MS); Odessa (Joey) Ingram
(Saltillo, MS); Marjorie (Riley) Brookins (McComb, MS); Robert (Sandy) Brookins,
III (Nettleton, MS); Stephanie (Emerson) Ballard (Henderson, TN); Carter (Faye)
Scales (Henderson, TN); Cedric Scales (Humboldt, TN); DeMario (Carla) Brookins
(Tupelo, MS); Simone' Dixon (Detroit, MI); Brandon Brookins (Memphis, TN);
Bradley (Andrea) Brookins (Chicago, IL) Brian (Jamecia) Brookins (Memphis, TN);
and Justin Holt (Memphis, TN). He is also survived by more than 30 grandchildren
and more than 15 great-grandchildren as well as a special friend, Melvin Windon of
Chicago, Illinois.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Brookins, Sr. and Odessa
(Oliver) Echols; two children, Keith and Braxton Brookins; four sisters: Marjorie
Ann Lewis, Erma Lee Covington, Carolyn Jean Hathaway, and Linda Faye Parker
and one brother, Jesse Harold Brookins.
