Marjorie Miller Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, family member and friend, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at her home in Shannon, MS, surrounded by her loving family. Marjorie was born on October 24, 1944, in Okolona, MS, to the late Matthew Miller and Eliza Beatrice Shaw Miller. She and her cherished twin sister, Marguerite Holland, were the youngest of their 15 children.

Marjorie was educated in the Lee County School System and graduated from Siggers High School in 1965. She married the love of her life, Rev. Carl Zell Jones, on March 26, 1967, and together they built a beautiful family rooted in faith, love, and service.

She worked at North Mississippi Medical Center (Tupelo, MS) and later at Hancock Fabrics, where she retired in 2007 after 32 years of dedicated service.

A lifelong resident of Shannon, MS, Marjorie was a faithful member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church (Shannon, MS) since her youth, where her childhood friend, Rev. George L. Kendrick, currently serves as pastor. She supported her husband's ministry for 35 years in the Northeast Mississippi Region and also was an active member of the Aberdeen-Tupelo District Ministers' Spouses.

Beyond her church and family, Marjorie was deeply committed to her community. She was a proud civil rights activist and a member of the United League of Northern Mississippi, a grassroots movement founded in 1978 during the height of racial violence. She stood with courage and determination, working to protect Black families, defend property rights, and support political empowerment in her
community.

Marjorie had a gentle strength and a generous spirit. She was known as a straight shooter—honest, firm, and faithful—yet also loving, sweet, funny, and kind. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply, making sure they had everything they needed. She extended that same care to nieces, nephews, other family members and children in the church. She wasn't hard to miss in church as she often donned a beautiful hat.

She was known for her chocolate cakes, pear preserves and homemade chow chow, and she loved watching nature shows and game shows like Family Feud and Let's Make a Deal. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed. One of her greatest joys was sharing life with her twin sister, Marguerite. Together, they were the babies of 15 siblings. The two were inseparable, always dressing alike and often swapping places in school. Their special bond remained throughout their lives, a testimony to sisterly love.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew Miller and Eliza Beatrice Shaw Miller; her beloved twin sister Marguerite Holland; all of her brothers and sisters: Frank Miller, James Miller, Earnest Peter Miller, William Miller, Ida Ruth Raspberry, Adlena Crockett, Nancy Sorrell, Anna Williams, Vivian Hughes, Velois Miller Brown, Geneva Trice, Matthew Miller, and Bernice Givhan; her siblings-in- law, Loverta (Thomas) Myles, Otis Lee "Happy" Jones Sr., Leroy Fells, Tobe Buchanan and Donell Jones, William Jones (nephew raised as a brother); her children-in-law, Sherry Jones and Roderick G. Caples.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 58 years, Rev. Carl Z. Jones; her daughters, Phyllis Monique Caples (Allen, TX) and Marcia Jones (Shannon, MS); her sons, Carl Anthony (Carla) Jones (Shannon, MS), Marcus Jones (Nashville, TN), and Kerry (Nikkia) Jones (Farmersville, TX); her sister-in-laws, Margie Fells, Verlean Buchanan (both of Shannon, MS); Constance Williams (Mishawaka, IN), Patricia Jones (Verona, MS); her brother-in-laws, Willie Jones, Jimmy Lee (Joyce) Jones, James Jones (all of Shannon, MS); a host of beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church members, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Marjorie's legacy is one of faith, family, service, and love. She was a beautiful woman who lived a beautiful life. Heaven has gained an angel, and though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing she is home with her Heavenly Father.
