Obituary

Listen to Obituary

In the early morning hours Friday, June 10, 2022, Freddie Louis Copeland, Jr. was involved in a single car accident resulting in a fatal crash near Harvest, AL.  He resided in Madison, AL for the past several years. Freddie, Jr.  was born June 29, 1983.

Freddie joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Florence, AL at an early age. He graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, AL in 2001. Freddie attended college at Wallace State Community College (2002 and 2003) in Hanceville, AL on a basketball scholarship. After completing his educational requirements, he enrolled at the University of North Alabama in Florence, AL also playing on the UNA Lions basketball team (2004 and 2005) obtaining a degree in Business Administration in 2006.

Freddie was employed for the past several years at Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. in Decatur, AL as a Quality Assurance Technician. He loved his job and all the people employed at the Toray location.

Freddie's hobby was purchasing real estate properties and rehabilitating the properties. He worked very hard to become "a jack of all trades" rehabilitating the various properties he owned.

The joy in Freddie's life was spending quality and enjoyable time with his son Mason especially attending church together on Sundays. Freddie always enjoyed the times with Mason participating in school functions at school and also away from school. Individuals who really associated with Freddie joked about the closeness of him and his son, Mason. "Whenever you observed one the other one was very close by." Freddie Louis Copeland, Jr. really loved his son and his son, Mason also really loved him.

Freddie was a "good natural" person with a pleasant personality and smile who really loved life. We thanked God for lending Freddie to us for 38 wonderful years.

To cherish Freddie, Jr. memories, he leaves his seven-year old son, Mason Cameron Copeland, Harvest, AL; Freddie's  loving parents,  Freddie Louis Copeland,  Sr. and Jane Russell Groves Copeland, Muscle Shoals, AL; one brother, Adrian Russell (Russ) Copeland, Decatur, GA;  three sisters, Catara Shanae Copeland, Huntsville, AL; Kylia Morrison Carter (Wendell Carter Sr.), Atlanta, GA; Melissa Yvette Miller, Gary, IN;  two nephews, Wendell Carter Jr. of the Orlando Magics basketball team, Orlando, FL and Terrance Warren, United States Navy,  McGuire AFB, Fort Dix, New Jersey;  one niece, Telisa Warren, Gary, IN; a very special friend,  Rachel Brittany Mason of Harvest, AL and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  God has acquired a very good soldier in His Army.

Gone Too Soon
We weren't prepared for you to go
You were too full of life to be
Taken away from us so soon
It's still hard to believe
How much we'll miss your smile
And your laughter in our ears
Your absence leaves a hole in us
We're filling with our tears
You taught us how to be our best
To in the moment live
To never hold a grudge for long
And loyal friendship give
Your presence was a light and joy
We never realized would someday end
Just like the brilliant falling star
That curved 'round heaven's bend
And though we cannot understand
The reasons God took you now
We'll do our best to accept this loss
To carry on somehow…
We can't bear to say goodbye
But you wouldn't want us mourning in distress
So we'll smile through these falling tears
Counting our time with you quite blessed
We will remember you forever
For you, our hearts will always have room
We loved you more than you will ever know
You left us way too soon!
