Today, we celebrate the life of Mrs. Eunice Jones Doxey, affectionately called "Dear or Dear Lady", the second daughter of the late Norman and Bessie Lee Kolheim-Jones, was preceded by her sister Edna McLeod and only niece Cheryl McLeod. Eunice was summoned by the Heavenly Father on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Cedar's Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo, Mississippi. Her body became weak, but Lord we thank you for preserving her mind. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched countless lives with her radiant smile, generous spirit, and unwavering faith. From a young age, Eunice had an unbreakable spirit and inspiring determination.
Being reared in an old-fashioned Christian home contributed to her strong set of values, which she lived by. At an early age, Eunice was baptized into the Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church, Guntown, MS where she regularly attended with her parents. Upon moving to Tupelo, she united with Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church and remained a member until her demise.
Eunice began her education in the rural school system of Lee County. She enrolled in Mississippi Industrial College, Holly Springs, MS earning a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Eunice married her early childhood sweetheart, the late Gentry Doxey. She taught school in Hernando, MS, for more than 25 years. After her marriage, Eunice relocated to Michigan and taught school for a number of years. She was dedicated to her calling as a teacher. Her legacy will live on in all that she taught. After her husband's death, Eunice relocated back home to Tupelo.
Forever cherishing memories of Eunice will be her son, Mitchell Jones (Desiree) of Evansville, Indiana; grandson and caregiver, Mitchell Derrick Jones (Pearlene) of Locust Grove, GA; granddaughter, La'Shey Jones-Price of Pontotoc, MS; 4 great-grandchildren, Shafeqah Jones, Chaqeur Lane, Mitchell Jones III (DJ), and Kevianna Howard; 11 great-great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
